West Tisbury selectmen form video pact with VTA

West Tisbury’s selectmen voted unanimously Wednesday evening allow for the installation of at least two wireless cameras on town hall property — one within town hall and one outside it by the bus stop. The Vineyard Transportation Authority will procure and install the cameras and have access to all footage taken.

Chairman “Skipper” Manter voiced concerns about public access to the camera footage, Vineyard Transportation access to the footage, and West Tisbury Police access to the footage — specifically whether the police could readily examine the footage if they needed to in furtherance of an investigation. Subsequent discussion between Mr. Manter, town administrator Jennifer Rand, and the other board members alleviated Mr. Manter’s concerns.

In other business, the selectmen declined a request by Ms. Rand to set aside money for landscape improvements around Town Hall. Ms. Rand told the selectmen that she’d received several complaints about the cosmetic appearance of the grounds. The selectmen opted to wait until Independence Day for any improvements.
