The lounge version of the Devolvers band performs this coming Saturday evening, April 7, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Mikado Asian Bistro in Vineyard Haven. The band includes Annie Cook on vocals, Slim Bob Berosh on guitar, Greg Ruszah on guitar and keys, and Alain Lucas on bass. The band’s lounge repertoire includes covers and originals in the trip-hop and ambient style, according to a press release.
This performance is part of a new series, Saturday Night Jazz Lounge at Mikado, featuring low-decibel jazz and lounge music by a range of local ensembles. The series kicked off March 24 with jazz standards and originals performed by Becky Williams and Rich Giaimo. The release states that the current schedule includes Saturdays only, although it may be expanded as the season progresses to include additional weekend and weeknight dates, as well as later time slots, depending on audience demand.
Annie Cook, who is coordinating acts with the venue, refers to the ambiance as “glorified background music” with the goal to provide musical entertainment that allows for patrons to enjoy a meal, drinks, and conversation in a relaxed atmosphere distinct from a typical bar environment.
The series continues April 14 with the David Hannon Trio, including John Alaimo on piano and Mike Tinus on bass; April 21 with the new jazz trio Honeysuckle featuring Siren Mayhew and Sean and Griffin McMahon, with more performances to be announced. Sean McMahon is scheduled to perform with guest accompanists on May 12.
