Now the melody the birds sing at night is a different tune than the one they sing in the morning. Their nighttime song is slower and softer, and seems to be beckoning them in to now rest through the night. Slowly the birds head in, and with just a few goodbye chirps, settle down. When the sun rises, the song that is sung is louder, sharper, and alerts us all to wake up and greet the morning. Soon the neighborhood is echoing with the sounds of calling birds as they converse back and forth, spreading news and joyously welcoming another day.

After the weather and traffic of last week, we need to have T shirts printed that say “I survived 7/4/19 on Martha’s Vineyard.” Storms, humidity, and unbelievable traffic occupied most of us for the entire week, as we made attempts to go to appointments and do necessary errands. Many of us had to give up in frustration and return home with our chores uncompleted. But then Saturday night, as promised by meteorologists, the weather changed, and Sunday morning arrived with the promised cool, dry air. This reprieve has given us hope we will be able to survive after all.
