Talent at the Tabernacle

The All Island Art Show returns to Oak Bluffs.

The All Island Art Show took place at the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs last Monday. After last year’s event was cancelled due to the pandemic, artists from all over the Island were glad to meet again in person to exhibit their art.

Photographers, sculptors, painters, and more came to display their works throughout the Tabernacle. “Our goal is to provide a venue for amateur and emerging artists, get them to get their art out there and meet other artists,” said Robert Schaefer, the chairman of the committee in charge of the event. “This is hearsay, but I understand galleries would not let these artists into their galleries, so in protest they started the show in the late 50s,” Schaefer added.

This year was Annette Tzouvelis’ first time displaying her paintings at an art show. The 19-year-old student at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston (MassArt), was excited to exhibit her paintings of places on the Island to the public. Artists Brian Kirkpatrick and his wife Stephanie Floor also displayed their paintings in the Tabernacle. “The best thing is talking to people,” said Mike Maitland, a photographer who decided it was about time he participated in the art show.
