Kevin H. Johnson, 67, of Oak Bluffs, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Faulkner Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his family.

He was born on June 5, 1958, in Brockton. Kevin went on to study biology at Old Dominion University, and earned a master’s in marine biology at Southeastern Massachusetts University, where he met his future wife, Anne O’Hara Johnson.

Kevin’s love of water followed him throughout his entire life. He was a lobster culturist for 15 years at the Massachusetts State Lobster Hatchery, where he raised lobsters. Anne followed him to Martha’s Vineyard, where they were married in St. Elizabeth’s Parish on May 3, 1986. Kevin built a pool and spa caretaking company with Anne at his side, leveraging their love of chemistry and water yet again.

Kevin was an active member of the community, working as the water commissioner for Oak Bluffs for 24 years, and then superintendent for seven years. He was also an avid golfer, and a member of Farm Neck Golf Course since moving to the Island. Finally, he was a loving father and husband, having just celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary with Anne.

If you asked Kevin what time it was, he was the type of person who would tell you how to build a clock. He was always teaching others and having great conversations.

Kevin will live on through Anne; his daughter, Katie; and son, James, as well as James’ wife, Stephanie, and two beautiful children, Oliver and Jack. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Johnson II.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6, from 1 to 3 pm at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, at 56 Edgartown Road in Oak Bluffs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MedFlight, online at bostonmedflight.org/make-a-gift, or to the 5K for KJ, online at bit.ly/RSU_5kForKJ_donate.
