Enjoy these last few moments of July! One more week until First Friday V.H. on August 7. Only five short weeks until Labor Day weekend. Or if you are one of those counting down to quieter times: fifteen weeks left until November.
If you haven’t walked along Main Street in Vineyard Haven lately: There have been a few midseason changes made over the past few weeks. Toccopuro (located where Mocha Mott’s previously was) has finished installing its new awning: a deep green color that blends in nicely between Seven Sisters and Trust’s blooming front gardens. Additional shoutouts to S&S Kitchenette repainting its exterior a bright seafoam color, Rinpo updating its signage with hand-painted details on their building, and CB Stark installing a new shade cover over Stark Park too. Also, the public restrooms by the Stop & Shop parking lot have extended their hours for the summer season.
But let’s be honest, the biggest update to our town’s Main Street this month is the reopening of the Vineyard Haven library at 200 Main. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek before the official reopening, and am so proud that our town has this updated space for our community to use. Currently closed on Sundays and Mondays (and reminder, Friday hours are 1 to 5 pm), this beautiful new space has been completely transformed, and is meant to be used by residents and visitors alike. Big welcome home to Newton Waite, chef-owner of Vineyard Caribbean Cuisine in Oak Bluffs! If you’ve been following along with this local story over the last year, mark your calendars this Friday for “Island Visions”: an art showcase, marketplace, and fundraiser on July 31 (6 to 10:30 pm) at the Strand Theatre in Oak Bluffs. Organized by Better Than Yesterday Social, Vineyard Caribbean Cuisine and the Martha’s Vineyard branch of the NAACP, this event will feature creatives of color performing, selling their work, and discussing art and mental health.
On Saturday, August 1, from 5 to 7 pm, stop by the Workshop Gallery for the opening reception of “Greatest Hits,” a solo exhibition by local photographer Matt Cosby, showing his best and favorite photographs from the past two decades.
Did you know that Maker Café on State Road hosts live music in its garden every weeknight, 6 to 8 pm, throughout the summer? The full schedule of performances can be found on its website to help make sure you don’t miss your favorite local musicians.
