I need to repeat this, so here we go: This is a community newspaper with community-driven town columns. Columns are written by columnists who live in each of the towns, work in said towns, and try to keep their eyes and ears open for moments, updates, and events to include in these columns. On to what’s happening in Edgartown. First up, the Derby is in its first week, for the 81st time. The opening bell was rung by Cooper Gilkes, and they were off to the races. For the next five weeks, you can spot anglers lining the shores of Edgartown beaches and casting their lines by boat, hoping for the biggest catch. For those needing their early caffeine intake, Rosewater Market is back to its shoulder-season hours, open every day except Sundays, so make sure to grab a coffee before getting out there!
September is a great time to support our Edgartown shops, most of them running some great sales this time of year. Stop into Katydid, Lilly Pulitzer, and Soft as a Grape, three shops that come to mind with end-of-summer sales, but if you see others with sales, make sure to send them my way.
This month is also prime wedding season in town, with happy couples getting married every weekend this month. Local wedding and event-planning companies like KG Events and Designs, as well as Plan It Martha’s Vineyard, are at their busiest, and I want to give them a round of applause. Two women-owned businesses that truly create some of the most memorable moments in town: Cheers to them!
