Halloween is now fully in-season. Spooky decorations are starting to appear around town, and soon many Chilmark School Scarecrows will join the downtown fun as well. I keep noticing wise old trees showing off their beautiful colors. Mix that with our recent weather, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for exploration. I always love leaf-peeping strolls this time of year along Williams Street, West Spring Street, or for a longer adventure, winding through Oak Grove Cemetery, next to the Tisbury School, for some truly blazing colors.

M.V. Screenprinting is working overtime on its next annual installment of the Haunted House, open on Oct. 30 and 31, with options for both early, lights-on fun, and later evening scares. The Halloween Puppet Parade will also be happening on Halloween Day, starting at 4 pm at the Mansion House. Bella leads the way with her larger-than-life handmade puppets, and everyone is encouraged to jump in and join the march down Main Street.

Visit Vineyard Haven will again hold its TisScary Halloween Happenings at 35 Main St. post-parade, with trick-or-treating at open businesses, music, costume contest, and more. The M.V. Museum’s Halloween on the Hill from 4:30 to 6 pm also offers games, seasonal crafts, a quiet sensory space, and of course trick-or-treating, so there are options for every ghoul that might stop by.

There is a new group art show up at the Workshop Gallery through Nov. 15. While I haven’t yet visited “The Museum of Unnatural History,” it is certainly on brand for this season, and definitely on my to-do list. I will be sure to report back once I make it over.

S&S Kitchenette will hold another “Esoteric Evening” on Thursday, Oct. 29, 4 to 8pm. With drinks, bites, tarot, and more, all witchkind are welcome.

On Oct. 24, an inclusive Teen Pride Party takes place at the V.H. Library, 7 to 10:30 pm. Expect music, food from Wicked Burger, and a special printmaking activity with Althea Designs.

To all the witches gathering in Edgartown on Oct. 25: I hope to catch the floating parade of your “Witching Hour” this year, from 9 to 10 am, and will cackle along with you from shore as you pass by on paddleboards, in canoes, or however else you float on the water.

El Barco has joined the list of businesses now closed for the season in Tisbury.

Happy birthday, Avery Miner, of Tisbury’s own Miner Family Gallery, on Saturday Oct. 24. Do you have an upcoming birthday, event, or just something you want shared in a future Tisbury column?
