Whether you’re thinking about them or not, the holidays are slowly approaching, and I know it more so because the Edgartown Board of Trade has been hard at work meeting with its planning committees in preparation for the 45th annual Christmas in Edgartown. The website is now live (christmasinedgartown.com), and will be updated throughout the month as the holiday weekend approaches, this year on Dec.10 through 13. Truly one of the most spectacular weekends of the year; I am so looking forward to it.
But first, we have to get through a few other holidays before we open those holiday gifts, so I’ve got my eye on Halloween and Thanksgiving before even thinking of making my list and checking it twice. This past weekend, both adults and kids dressed up for Edgartown’s Happy Haunting in the downtown area, and it was a fantastic scene all around!
After Halloween passes this weekend, as citizens we have the duty to vote on Nov. 3, so make sure to get your votes in at Town Hall. You can review a sample ballot online at edgartown-ma.us, which is a fantastic way to prepare yourself for this civic duty.
Right after Election Day, on Nov. 5 starting at 5:30 pm, you’ll have one more chance to see “Margot Datz: Recreator” in the Carnegie Gallery! Join the artist to celebrate the exhibition and its new permanent presence at the Carnegie, and hear what’s next for Margot, including new public art projects across the Island.
It’s safe to say that if you know me, you know one of my favorite things to do is talk about food, and before I start researching the Thanksgiving offerings in town, let’s talk about what I’ve been eating lately. First up, I recently worked with the team at Town Bar & Grill to develop their new fall/winter menu, and let me tell you, it was delicious but hard work — work that was fueled by coffee runs to Dip 02539 and Edgartown Meat & Fish for caffeine that helped us get through the long days. And on days when I’m not in a kitchen and writing at my desk, at the end of a long day, I’ve started getting a craving for burgers, and Wicked Burger has been hitting the spot because they have combos of a burger, side, and a drink for anything between $18 and $24, and it’s truly a satisfying meal. Don’t think they sent me to tell you this; I’ve spent plenty of $21s myself, because my order is the Wicked Bacon Combo with onion rings and lemon-lime seltzer. Do I wish they carried Coca-Cola products? Yes, but I can’t always get my way.
You know who I hope gets their way? Everyone celebrating a birthday this week: Meg Burke on Oct. 29, Mary Marshall Highet, Meaghan Nydam, and Jenna Petersen Shepard on Oct. 30, Will Bryan on Nov. 2, and Carlos Guzman on Nov. 5! Cheers to you all, and happiest of birthdays!
