In girls interscholastic league action, Tuesday, at West Tisbury, the Tisbury Tigers won an overtime contest, 47-44.
The final minute of regulation play was especially tense. Down by six with 55 seconds on the clock, Emily Turney hit from long range for WesTiz cutting the lead in half. Samantha Maltais cashed one of two from the foul line. With seven seconds remaining, Lucy Hackney drove up the floor, spotted an open Maltais who drained the tying hoop with one second remaining.
Maya Houston was key to the Tisbury offense, scoring a game-high 24, while making all the right passes in OT.
Lucy Hackney led the Up-Island Hawks with 14. Both Maltais and Turney contributed 11.
At Oak Bluffs, also Tuesday, the lady Blazers outscored the visiting Edgartown Eagles, 50-24. Kat deBettencourt led O.B. with 16 points. Mariah Duarte added 10 more. Kenya Peters collected 10 rebounds, more than half off the offensive glass.
The boys interscholastic teams play today.
