Our Island Club, a discount membership group for Island residents, announced the distribution of more than $36,000 in donations and scholarships to more than 160 Island organizations, including the Martha’s Vineyard Animal Shelter, Food Pantry and Hospice, according to a press release.
This year, scholarships will be established in the Permanent Endowment Fund for higher education, two high school vocational programs, Vineyard Nursing Association, Featherstone Center for the Arts and Community Services/Early Childhood Development.
When individuals join the club they can designate a charity of choice, and 20 percent of the membership fee is set aside for annual distribution. The scholarships are funded from those members who do not choose a charity.
