While summer is not here yet, our gardens need us to prepare for it now. To help you get in the spirit of sun, I spoke with Lori Machado and Leslie Deal at Donaroma’s Nursery and Floral Shop on Main Street in Edgartown.

Katryn: What should people be planting now for the summer season?

Lori: We have a great selection of trees, shrubs, and perennials all ready to go. New annuals are becoming available every day for planting. This great spring weather has given everything a happy early start. This is a great time to fertilize existing plants and shrubs in your landscaping.

Katryn: Are you running any specials to help Islanders get their homes and garden ready for the summer season?

Lori: We have a large selection of plants priced to sell. Come visit us regularly for new specials. We work hard to always provide top quality product and great prices.

Leslie: Our full line of organic garden products…from potting soil to bug sprays. We have also revamped our tool selection with top-of-the-line hand tools, rakes, shovels, pruners, and gloves.

Katryn: Is there anything new this year at Donaroma’s?

Lori: Here in the nursery we have expanded our organic product line to keep up with the need for being green. Organic soils, fertilizers, and pest control as well as carrying Eco MV’s product line. Come visit us in the Green Shed. As always we have a friendly, helpful knowledgeable staff eager to help with your gardening/landscaping needs.

Leslie: You can also join us on our new Facebook and Twitter pages, which we will be updating several times a week. Be checking for new arrivals and specials. Also, we will be having a pink and green cocktail party on Friday evening May 7 from 5 to 7 pm in the garden store at Donaroma’s…Wear pink and green and be entered to win a fabulous prize.
