Island resident and celebrated cookbook author Catherine Walthers spent last Friday evening at new Island gallery, Pep Art, celebrating the release of her third cookbook, “Soups + Sides.”
The author is known for her popular go-to book, “Raising the Salad Bar,” which offers original salad-themed recipes with greens, grains, fish, and poultry in addition to fresh dressing varieties. “Soups + Sides” promises to be equally as successful with a combination of standard recipes as well as many with a creative flare, such as red lentil soup with chickpea burgers.
Ms. Walthers spent three hours signing books and mingling with guests, who enjoyed samples from the new book including cucumber soup, gazpacho, and spring rolls. The food was just as light and fresh as it was delicious and suited the summer evening handsomely. Colorful landscapes provided a quaint ambiance and plenty of visual stimulation while introducing guests to Pep Art’s contemporary art scene.
As president of Slow Food Martha’s Vineyard, Ms. Walthers is just as committed to supporting local foods as she is to inventing delightful ways to combine them.
