The Vineyard FC Masters over-40 soccer team suffered its first loss of the season to the Foxboro Warthogs, Sunday, at Foxboro, 3-1.
The host Hogs played a very physical game resulting in several Vineyard injuries. Foxboro’s roster of players was lengthy, providing a ready supply of fresh legs as substitutes while the Islanders “bench” was just three.
The lone Vineyard goal was scored by Rodolfo Fernandez.
The loss dropped the Islanders to second place in the New England Over the Hill Soccer League’s Masters Division 5 South.
The Vineyarders host West Roxbury at their home-away-from-home field at the Cape Cod Upper Cape Technical School this Sunday. Kickoff is at 9:00 am.
