The Vineyard FC Masters fought back from a two-goal deficit in the first half to score two of their own in the second half and tie Mansfield at Mansfield, 2-2.

The first Vineyard goal was off the foot of veteran footballer and MVRHS soccer coach Bob Hammond, Bob skillfully chipped over the Mansfield wall and tucked the ball into the right corner for a textbook set play goal.

Later in the second half Skip Dostal pushed past the Mansfield defense and beat the keeper with a low hard shot, tying the game.

The Vineyard’s Joaquin Freitas was ejected from the match after receiving two yellow cards for creative defending with his elbow. MV stopper back Kevin Nichols was knocked out involuntarily, heading a hard Mansfield shot. After a few minutes Kevin was able to walk off the field under his own power into the helpful hands of some EMTs.

The Vineyard FC Masters remain in third place in the New England Over The Hill Soccer League’s Division 5 South just behind the Los Inkas Sports Club and the Foxboro Warthogs.

The Islanders take on Foxboro next Sunday at Bourne. Kick off is at 9 am.
