Christmas in Edgartown

For those wishing that Christmas would come early this year, your dream is coming true this weekend with the much-anticipated Christmas in Edgartown. This annual event harks carolers, bells as they welcome shoppers into our colorful stores, along with happy giggles from kids and adults alike. Edgartown is dressed in its holiday finery, ready to celebrate with shopping, dining, concerts, crafts, and much more.

There are many events to attend beginning at 2 pm on Friday, with the Inns of Edgartown tours followed by the lighting of the Edgartown Lighthouse at 5:30 pm. While in town enjoying these and other festivities, get a jump-start on your holiday shopping at some of our amazing local stores. There will be sales, specials, and loads of holiday cheer.

Shopping for an active, outdoors type? Summer Shades is a great place to start, as the sun is out and super bright when it reflects off snow. Sun Dog has active outerwear for your man and Bryn Walker will keep your lady warmly in style with their Santa Size Savings on clothing and accessories, while The Great Put On can outfit the chic couple in one fell swoop and Trader Fred’s will make the whole family cozy. For our visiting guests looking for souvenir casual clothing and for the Islander who has to find gifts for the family members that live off-Island (but love to visit), Shirt Tales’ 50 percent off sale can cover you under the tree for a fraction of the price. Sheila Allen Styles is a fun place to while away some time and you won’t be able to make it out of the store without having purchased at least one colorful accessory for $25 or less. For some finer bling, Claudia’s Jewelry can make a whole family happy.

Saturday’s festivities start very early. The newest addition to Edgartown, The Space, is hosting free Winter Warm Up fitness classes at 7 and 8 am along with a Story Theater Interactive Performance at 1 pm.

The day kicks off with the Annual Holiday Parade at 11 am, which coincides with a slew of other events. Donaroma’s is hosting the all-time favorite Wreath Making Workshop, where you can design, from the first twig up, your very own wreath or boxwood tree. If you love the finished product, but don’t want to put in the time, there will be plenty of pre-made and decorated wreaths, trees, and arrangements for you to buy. Or, just visit the decorated greenhouse that contains numerous plants, decorations, and ornaments.

The 18th annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Show is always a crowd pleaser with local artists and organizations selling their wares at the Edgartown School. And, the Federated Church downtown is host to the Elves Fair, which benefits the Plum Hill preschool program. At 11 am our already rocking events are joined by the Christmas Shoppers Luncheon, an open house with art galleries, and book signings by various authors at Edgartown Books (which also has their annual 20 percent off sale). Get photos with Santa next at Past & Presents, which is having a 40 percent off everything in the store sale (excluding Christmas and consignments).

This is just a small sampling of all the events that are happening this Friday through Sunday for Christmas in Edgartown. Oh how the head can spin. I suggest that you camp out in Edgartown for the weekend. Make sure to bring your shopping bags. Happy Holidays.
