Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School coach Mike Joyce’s varsity basketball team ran away from the Somerset Blue Raiders at the Sancy Pachico gym, Friday, 66-46.
The game was close enough in the first quarter, in fact Somerset managed to take the lead after the first 20 minutes, 15-12. But as the game progressed the Vineyarders fast break and superiority on the boards took their toll. At the half MV led by eleven, 35-24.
That would grow to 20 by game’s end, 66-46.
Scoring in twin columns for the Islanders were Peter Keaney (15), Randall Jette (12), and T.J. Van Gerven (10).
Also adding to the Vineyard’s winning margin: Ben Ciciora (8), Brandon Fisher (5), Jack Wadleigh (4), Jack Roberts (4) , Delmont Araujo (4), Charles Everett (2), and Jake Martin (2).
Both Keaney and Ciciora sank a pair from long distance.
Jayvees, too
The MVRHS boys junior varsity team won their game with the Raiders by the same margin as the varsity, 65-45. Izak Browne had the game high 24 points. Mike deBettencourt added 11 and Ben Dwane had seven.
Frosh bow
The MVRHS freshmen squad gave the Somerset frosh about all they could handle playing at the Boys & Girls Club in Edgartown, but handle it they did and sailed away with a 48-41 win.
