The Martha’s Vineyard Prescribed Fire Partnership conducted a controlled burn Thursday, March 31 at the Long Point Wildlife Refuge in West Tisbury.
“These burns help restore the health of our natural areas, allowing plants and wildlife to rejuvenate,” according to the press release. “Over the last four years, the Martha’s Vineyard Prescribed Fire Partnership has used controlled burning on an average of 100 acres per year on the Vineyard. Additionally, the Partnership assists the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation with burning in Manuel Correllus State Forest.”
The Partnership conducted its first burn of the season on March 20 in Katama.
Member organizations of The Martha’s Vineyard Prescribed Fire Partnership include Mass Audubon, The Nature Conservancy, Polly Hill Arboretum, Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation, and The Trustees of Reservations.
