Theater project is a unique learning tool

To the Editor:

I truly hope that next year there will be a fourth and fifth grade theater project, as it appears that many of this year’s fourth graders will be missing out on an extraordinary educational and cultural opportunity.

During the fourth grade theater project, students work collaboratively to create their own plays, which they perform on the stage at the Vineyard Playhouse. In their roles as actors, costume designers, sound techs, and stage managers, nine and ten year olds learn life skills such as team work and personal responsibility, skills that they simply cannot get studying for yet another round of MCAS testing.
