The holidays are over and things are slowing down. In fact many Island businesses are closing for a winter break to rejuvenate, so why don’t you do the same? Whether you choose to do something special for yourself or engage in winter merriment with friends, there are still some great Island venues to visit.
Curious about what the New Year will bring? You can partake in an astrology, psychic, or a Tarot reading to get an early preview. Most people would love to have a guidebook on life expectations, and many people feel they can get that with an astrological chart that was made specifically for them or to get a current glance with a psychic or tarot reading.
Thankfully, our Island has some wonderful professionals ready to help you get that much-needed look at your life, and all you need to do is call. For astrology, you may contact Arlan Wise at arlanwise.com or call 508-645-9292, and Kathie Gibbs, 508-693-8021. For a psychic or tarot reading, Pyewackets, located on Beach Road in Vineyard Haven, is a great option. You may reach them at 508-696-7766 to make your reading appointment.
If you are looking to relax and wipe off last year’s grime, a visit to one of our local spas could do the trick. The Mansion House on Main Street in Vineyard Haven is open year-round and offers a full line-up of services including facials, massage, and body wraps. Visit mvmansionhouse.com or call 508-693-2200.
Next door is another spa, Polished. Open Monday through Saturday by appointment only, Polished offers such relaxing services as multiple body scrubs or wraps, along with massages, waxings, and manicures. They may be reached for appointments online at polishedmv.com or by phone at 508-939-0800.
The Mod Spa at the Triangle in Edgartown is another spa that offers a range of services for a well-rounded experience. Sign up for personal training, then a private yoga session, and finish off your visit with one of their many relaxing massages. To learn more, or to make your appointment, visit them online at consciousmassage.com or call them at 508-939-4339. Keep in mind that these are a few of the many spas and massage options on the Island. If you have a favorite, go visit and bring a friend for an enjoyable experience.
With many restaurants taking a much-deserved break during January and February, your dining out options may diminish slightly. An alternative could be to put a yummy one-pot-wonder meal in a crock pot, open up the game cabinet, and invite some friends over for a fun game night. The Toy Box in the Tisbury Marketplace off of Beach Road, which is open daily year-round, has some of the best games going if you need new options. To help you decide what games might be best, here is a top-ten list of board and party games (from kidzword.com): Apples to Apples, The Logo Board Game, Cranium, Quelf, Blokus, Scattergories, Hedbanz, Scene It?, The Settlers of Catan, and number one is Imaginiff, a game that lets you get to know your family and friends on a whole new level.
Other great game shopping venues include Brickman’s on Main Street in Vineyard Haven, Granite at the Triangle in Edgartown, and The Lazy Frog on Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs (who with the cold weather will hibernate upon occasion, so call Jake in advance at 617-816-7400).
Also, should you not have a crock pot at the ready, several Island stores carry them including LeRoux on Main Street, Granite, and Shirley’s Hardware on State Road in Vineyard Haven.
Whatever your choice is for your winter amusement, have fun and enjoy.
