On Sunday, June 17, the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association honored three recent graduates of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School for their artistic accomplishments.
The association awarded scholarships to Courtney Mussell and Noelle Nelson, and an honorable mention to Christine Janak.
In addition to receiving scholarships towards their studies, each artist’s work was on display at the Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown.
The young artists displayed important works from their senior projects and works from throughout their high school careers.
“The work explores each artist’s unique interests and distinct style,” director of Old Sculpin Gallery Kat Cope said. “It is refreshing to see the range of self-expression and the uninhibited creativity in these works.”
A crowd of approximately 200 viewed their work during opening night, and a piece from each artist was purchased.
Ms. Mussell will attend Endicott College in the fall where she will study interior and sustainable design.
Ms. Nelson has not declared her studies at the Massachusetts College of Art, but said she is excited to explore different media areas.
Ms. Janak will attend Gettysburg College in the fall to study graphic design.
