During the next two weekends, “The Beatles Present The Lord of the Rings: The Musical” will be performed at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury by drama students from Carnegie Mellon University.
Sponsored by Island Theatre Workshop (ITW), the musical tells a fictional story of The Beatles. As the iconic band approaches the end of the 1960s, they come closer to their break-up. In a last attempt to stay together, the Fab Four films a live action movie musical adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings.” Paul, John, George, and Ringo perform amidst hobbits and wizards, chases and fights, all while avoiding the wicked plots of the villainess, Yoko Ono. The show is not recommended for children under 10.
ITW was founded in 1968 as a summer theater program for children. Now, the group performs and sponsors productions for all ages year-round. ITW is hosting and producing this troupe from Carnegie Mellon University as part of their educational outreach.
Performances are scheduled for August 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11. Each night, the show begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $15 at the door. For more information, call 508-627-3166 or for tickets go to ticketsmv.com.
