Eubanks & Seymour team up for open house

Two Island artists, Bettie Eubanks and Harry Seymour, will exhibit more than 50 works at a two-day artists’ reception on Friday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Aug. 25, from 4 to 6 pm. This event will be held at Ms. Eubank’s home, 106 County Rd., Oak Bluffs.

A color impressionist, Ms. Eubanks uses acrylics to create florals, boats, under water images and abstract paintings, some of which are mixed media. Mr. Seymour creates Vineyard scenes and life in figurative art on scratchboard and with egg tempera and pastel. For information, go to beubanks.com or hseymour.artspan.com.

Old Sculpin features Gomez Gordon and Rodney

Nina Gomez Gordon will join Gail Rodney in an exhibit starting Saturday, August 25, at Edgartown’s Old Sculpin Gallery. Both are plein-air landscape painters. Already hanging at the gallery are MV Art Association artists Mary French, Kathy Poehler, Anne Grandin and Brian Kirkpatrick. An artists’ reception is planned for Sunday, Aug. 26, from 5 to 7 pm. Pottery & painting at Featherstone

A bumper crop of events will fill the schedule at Featherstone Center for the Arts this weekend. Artist Michaele Christian, who divides her time between Oak Bluffs and Washington D.C., brings her multi-media work to the Center’s Pebble Gallery with a reception on Thursday, August 23, from 4 to 6 pm.

On Sunday, visitors who show up from 4 to 6 pm will receive a bowl of soup, a roll, dessert and a drink, if they purchase a bowl by a Featherstone potter for $25 in the Third Annual Pottery Bowl. A reception for The Art of Flight Ceramics Show will also be held on Sunday, August 26, at the same time. Chilmark Bank hosts PeaceQuilt exhibit

Handmade quilts and other one-of-a-kind items made by Haitian craftsmen will remain on display and for sale at the Sovereign Bank in Chilmark through Friday, Aug. 24. The sponsoring organization, PeaceQuilts, is a nonprofit providing humanitarian support by helping create cooperatives for 100 Haitian women to alleviate poverty in the Caribbean island nation.
