Island gymnasts take fifth in Connecticut meet

Island Gymnastics Training School team and pre-team members were among 22 gyms competing January 18 at the Abie Grossfeld Invitational in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Both the team and preteam girls brought home a fifth place banner for the gym.

Molly Crawford earned an 8.0 for floor and an all around trophy in the bronze junior division. Sophia Kokoszka scored an 8.3 on beam in the bronze junior division. Michaela Benefit took home a medal for her 8.8 on vault in the bronze intermediate division. Avery Simmons had a high score of 8.9 for bars and earned a medal for her 8.85 on vault in the bronze senior division.

Taybor Estrella competed in the silver junior division, placing second for vault (9.0), fourth on floor (9.15) and sixth on bars (8.9), finishing with three medals and the sixth place all around trophy. Also in the silver junior division, Isabelle Murphy won an all around trophy and a medal for an 8.75 on floor, while Mya Lee O’Neill captured an all around trophy with an 8.5 for both vault and beam. Kasey Varkonda competed in the silver intermediate division, winning a medal for vault with an 8.75, plus an all around trophy. The teams were coached by Beth Goodell and Macayah Goodell.
