VA doctor to meet with Island veterans at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital

Due to a computer glitch, Island veterans who receive health care through the Veterans Administration (VA) recently were mailed two letters telling them they have doctor appointments scheduled on the same date and time, in two different places.

“The appointment is for here on the Island, at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, and veterans should ignore the letter that says they have an appointment in Hyannis,” Dukes County Director Veterans Services Jo Ann Murphy told The Times in a phone call Tuesday.

Dr. Monty VanBeber will be at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on February 10, 11, and 12 to meet with all Island veterans who receive their health care through the VA, as required annually to update their records to keep them in the system, Ms. Murphy said. Dr. VanBeber is the Associate Chief of Staff for Community-Based Outpatient Clinics for the Providence VA Medical Center (VAMC).

The Providence VAMC awarded a new contract to MVH in September 2012 to provide basic medical services to eligible Island veterans, including basic lab work and diagnostic imaging, without the need for pre-approval, according to a VA press release.

Ms. Murphy said veterans who have questions or need more information should call 508-771-3190.
