To the Editor:
Thank you for your article on food insecurity and responses to it on Martha’s Vineyard (“Food stamps pose a challenge for hundreds of Island residents”).
I would like to offer one small correction. The Food Stamp Challenge was not issued by me personally, but by the Vineyard Committee on Hunger (VCOH), which I have the honor to serve as president.
The VCOH is a group of concerned citizens that addresses hunger through education, fundraising, and direct food distribution. Recently, for example, we sponsored an Oxfam “Hunger Banquet” at the high school. We’re currently in the planning stages for our annual bread and baked goods sale, now in its 37th year. Please see our website for an overview: hungercommittee.org.
VCOH meets monthly, and new members are always welcome. Please email us at info@hungercommittee.org if you’d like to find out more.
