Islanders celebrate strawberries and summertime

A berry-themed banner and brightly colored balloons waving outside the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury can only mean one thing: the annual Strawberry Festival is back in town.

The festival, now in its 26th year, will bring Islanders of all ages to the church’s lawn this Saturday, June 21, from 12 noon to 4 pm, to enjoy a variety of succulent treats prepared earlier in the day by volunteers. Among the menu items are strawberry shortcake, strawberries with whipped cream, and strawberry smoothies; those with a less demanding sweet tooth can pair their berries with a glass of tart lemonade. Leftovers, if any remain, will be made into jam and sold the following week.

Proceeds from the festival will benefit operating expenses of the church. In the event of rain, the festival will be hosted indoors. For more information, call 508-693-2842.
