The Martha’s Vineyard junior high travel basketball team, which consists of both seventh and eighth graders, got off to a 4-0 start in the Cape Cod Youth Basketball League with three victories over the weekend.

In game one, the Vineyard beat Plymouth North B by a score of 62-31. Dylan Dyke led a balanced attack with 14 points, with Talon Russillo and Jeremy Regan each scoring 12.

In game two, the Vineyard held a slim 28-23 half-time lead against Mashpee. Lights-out shooting and a high-energy full-court press in the second half resulted in 47-10 second-half difference, and the Vineyard prevailed, 75-33. Jared Regan lead all scorers with 16 points and Lukah Veira contributed 12. Defensively, Dyke and Owen Porterfield were responsible for the smooth transition offense all afternoon.

In game three, the Vineyarders battled through a slow start and were able to grind through a tough defensive battle with Dartmouth, 54-36. Jared Regan had 15 points, Dyke added 12, and Mike Habekost drained four key jump shots for 8 points.

Next up is Barnstable and Plymouth South, in Oak  Bluffs, on Saturday, Dec. 20.
