M.V. United U13 Boys 2 – Fall River 1

The M.V. United U13 boys entered their final regular season game with a 6-1 record and 1st place in their division. Their opponent, Fall River, sitting in 2nd place and only 2 behind. The Vineyard controlled the pace for most of the first half. They moved the ball with great passing and had many scoring chances. Tim Wallis controlled the right side with speed, great passing and beautiful ball control. Then in the 15th minute, Emanuel Silva used the defense as a screen and fired one past the Fall River goalie. That’s the way the score stayed entering the half. In the second half, Fall River turned the table. They came out with ball control and put pressure on the Vineyard defense. As the Vineyard fought back and began to move the ball around a little better, their efforts paid off. After a goalie save and a few rebounds, Robe Della Torre knocked the ball into the net to give the Vineyard a 2-0 lead. Fall River continued to fight and put pressure on the Vineyard defense. On a cross from the right side, Adam Knight saved the day with a defensive header that was sure to go in. The ball hit the post instead and was scooped up by Colby Zarba right on the goal line. Fall River finally got on the board with a beautiful header off a corner kick. That’s as close as they would get and the Vineyard held on for a 2-1 win. The win earned them 1st place in their division for the season and the #1 seed in the playoffs on Saturday in Mariner.
