The Martha’s Vineyard Youth Hockey PeeWee Smythe Mariners traveled to Orleans last Wednesday to play in their first game of the District 5 State Playdown against Lower Cape, and skated to a 4-3 win. The Mariners’ Cam Geary opened up the scoring with assists from Will Bruguiere and Dylan Biggs. Eli Gundersen made it 2-0 in the second period, with Cam Geary and Will Bruguiere assisting. Lower Cape cut the score to 2-1, until Richie Combra made it 3-1, with assists going to Dylan Biggs and Jake Scott. Lower Cape continued to fight back, and eventually tied the game 3-3. With only 1:40 left in the game, the Mariners were able to capitalize on a Lower Cape penalty when Geary fired a shot off the crossbar and into the net after receiving a pass from Jack Lionette.

Nick Rego and Noah Smith played strong defense, while goalie Oliver Lively made 16 saves to earn the win.
