In a tight victory, the Martha’s Vineyard girls varsity basketball team edged out Bishop Stang 43-39 Tuesday night to bring their record to 3-0 in the Eastern Athletic Conference and 7-3 for the season.

Sophomore Molly deBettencourt hit a three point shot with two minutes left in fourth quarter to seal the team’s lead.

Coach Maureen Hill said Bishop Stang had a good game plan, one which the Vineyard team will need to watch out for from now on. “Erin Hill was basically double and triple teamed the whole game,” she said. “We did get Molly deBettencourt open for a few shots. I think next time when we’re home we’ll have an easier time making some of those.”

Coach Hill was confident in the team going forward. “We only need three more wins to qualify for the state tournament. I think we’re in a good place,” she said.
