Despite a few cancellations due to weather, two MV United teams hit the pitch for their first games of the season on Sunday, April 2.
The Division 2 U12 sixth grade girls team traveled to Dennis-Yarmouth for its first match of the season. This is a newly formed team, and the girls played well, but when the final whistle blew, D-Y took the match 4-0.
The U16 10th grade boys team opened up its season on the home pitch against Falmouth. Emanuel Silva got the home team going with his first goal of the season at the 18-minute mark. Then just before the half, on a beautiful cross by Morgan Estrella, Jojo Bonneau gave the boys a 2-0 lead with a great header. Falmouth came out strong in the second half, and scored a goal at the 45-minute mark.
The goal pulled them within one point of MV, but a minute later, Estrella made a run toward the net. At the last second, he tapped it left to Dash Christy, who notched his first goal, giving MV the 3-1 lead. Silva notched another, with an assist by Jaiden Edelman, and MV walked off with a 4-1 win.
This weekend, all 11 teams will be in action. For the complete weekend schedule, please check MV United’s website, mvunited.org.
