The Living Legend Award was presented to Marie B. Allen of Oak Bluffs by the New England Area Conference of the NAACP at its 2017 annual meeting. According to a press release, the New England Area Conference is the governing and coordinating entity of the NAACP for branches, college chapters, high school chapters and youth councils in the states of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont.
The award is granted by a vote of the executive committee, and presented to an NAACP member who has done an exceptional job and distinguished him- or herself in voluntary service to the mission and goals of the NAACP.
