The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) girls tennis team traveled to Hyannis Thursday and defeated Sturgis East Charter School by a score of five matches to none. The girls currently lead the Cape & Islands League, with a 7-0 record.
Senior co-captains Kelly Klaren, first singles, defeated Cece Kane, 6-0, 6-0, and Victoria Scott, second singles, defeated Brooke Meyer, 6-0, 6-0. Third singles Hannah Rabasca also took her match against Liz White, 6-0, 6-0. In the doubles, the No. 1 pairing of Molly Pogue and Chesca Potter won 6-1, 6-0, while No. 2 Alexandra Rego and Tessa Hammond won 6-0, 6-1.
The boys tennis team also defeated Sturgis East on Tuesday on their home courts at MVRHS, taking all five matches, and also improved to 7-0 on the year. The Vineyard swept the singles matches, 6-0, 6-0. First singles Chris Ferry of the Vineyard defeated Will Furtado, second singles Max Potter defeated Noah Whelpley, and third singles Eric Reubens defeated Elliot Stark. First doubles team Owen Favreau and Spencer Pogue also took their match 6-0, 6-0, while second doubles David Krauthamer and Ben Belisle defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-3.
Both girls and boys teams will play at Nantucket on Saturday, April 27.
