Select board actions are confusing

To the Editor:

Actually, this is more accurately a letter to the select board of West Tisbury.

Following the well-attended select board meeting of Wednesday, June 30, I have learned several things. The board members made two important, unanimous, and confusing decisions. 1. Because of the ongoing and apparently overwhelming coronavirus threats to the health and wellness of West Tisbury residents, visitors, and workers, the board made it imperative that everyone in public buildings — including vaccinated seniors wishing to exercise, for example — wear a mask at all times. 2. Because the coronavirus is no longer a health threat to West Tisbury residents, visitors, and workers, the board decided that it need not use its authority and mandate that all appointed employees be vaccinated. Right. OK. Super.

We can do better.
