A longtime Island visitor celebrated a grand birthday in Oak Bluffs this past week.
After thanking friends, family, and fans for coming to visit the “aged and infirm,” a sprightly Anne Ausubel took a moment at her 105th birthday party last Sunday to remember “dear, precious friends” Adeline Rappaport, Dr. Dave Rappaport, and legendary local lawyer Ronald Rappaport.
“I’m not going to say I wish they were here, because they are here,” Ausubel said. And indeed, Ronald’s wife Jane, daughter Julia, grandsons Sam and Charlie, and nephew Michael were all in attendance.
The party was held on her son Jesse’s back patio in Oak Bluffs. The family has been celebrating Anne’s birthday in Oak Bluffs since 1955, when they first rented a home on Pennacook Avenue from the Healey family through real estate agent Jimmy Rego. The children would help ring the church bells on Sundays.
