Kin
by Ingrid Goff-Maidoff
That was the night we sat
on the Seafood Shanty deck
and watched the boats
of summer sailing in.
The night was warm,
with a slight breeze
coming off the water.
We relaxed and simply
enjoyed ourselves.
I don’t know why
this seemed
a rare permission.
And maybe we got
a little tipsy.
Later, strolling
back through town,
everyone we met
felt like long-lost kin —
astonishingly lovable
and not at all a stranger.
