The Martha’s Vineyard Hospital has announced that Renee Clancy, the longtime executive director of nursing, was appointed the new chief nursing officer.

The role was previously held by the new president and chief operating officer, Claire Seguin. Clancy has been a member of the hospital’s nursing leadership team for six years, according to a press release this month

“What makes the nursing community at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital so extraordinary is the heart behind the work,” Clancy said in the release. “My vision is to ensure Martha’s Vineyard Hospital is not only a place where nurses deliver exceptional care, but also where they feel empowered, inspired, and proud to grow their careers. The future of nursing here is incredibly bright, and I’m excited to lead what comes next.”

Clancy has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare field, having worked in two other Massachusetts hospitals prior to joining the Martha’s Vineyard team.

Clancy is from Dover, and started her career as a perioperative nurse at Lowell General Hospital, where she was later promoted to nurse manager of perioperative and procedural services.

A few years later, Clancy was the nursing director of adult and pediatric gastroenterology services and the interim nursing manager of the outpatient surgery service at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She then joined the staff as nursing director for perioperative services at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, “where she led significant improvements in clinical operations and invested in developing emerging leaders to ensure continuity and sustained performance,” the release states.

“Beyond her professional strengths, Renee is deeply committed to this organization, the people we serve, and the Island community,” Seguin said in the release. “She understands our culture, our challenges, and our opportunities, and she shows up every day ready to do the work in collaboration with all team members. She leads with both accountability and heart.”
