On a windy Monday night at Veira Park, the Little League majors’ Pirates and A’s went head to head after a long week of games. The Pirates got on board in the first with an Elijah Dun Feiner single, scoring Nick Cranston and Isaac Richards. The A’s would answer with four runs of their own, beginning with a Max Potter double, scoring Nate Porterfield and Tobey Roberts. Bethany Cardosa, Isaac and Nick scored in the second for the Pirates. Chris Ferry and Jack Lionette scored on some speedy base running in the fifth for the A’s. The game continued in an entertaining back and forth, but ultimately the A’s defeated the Pirates 12-9. Oliver Lively ended the game with a great catch, especially considering the wind.
On Tuesday, the Cubs beat the Red Sox 5-0 in a well-played baseball game. Keaton Aliberti and Andrew Marchand combined to throw a one-hitter for the Cubs. Jonathan Norton drilled two singles and drove in two runs, while Dylan Burke had a clutch two-out, two-RBI single. Dylan also threw a runner out at home from right field later in the game.
Red Sox pitchers Jason Kurth and Aiden Rogers pitched well, keeping the game tight until Burke’s fifth-inning hit.
The Red Sox will face the Pirates on Monday in a first-round playoff game. The winner plays the Cubs next Wednesday, with the winner of that game going on to the championship game on Saturday, June 20.
