Nick Bond drained six three-pointers, scoring 27 points, as Martha’s Vineyard held off Jeremiah Burke High School of Dorchester, 64-62, in a non-league boys basketball game Wednesday in Oak Bluffs.
The Vineyarders got off to a slow start, trailing 13-9 after the first quarter. The hosts righted the ship in the second period. Nick Bond and Ricardo Andrade combined for 20 points to stake M.V. to a 32-25 halftime lead.
The Vineyard lead grew to ten before the Bulldogs roared back to tie the game at 58-58 with 2:52 left in regulation. Enter Nick Bond, who hit a trey to put Martha’s Vineyard up 61-58 and sank another to answer Damonte Turner’s three to make it 64-61 with just over a minute left.
Burke had the ball with five seconds left on the clock but couldn’t get off a shot.
With the win, the Vineyarders improved to 6-2. Ricardo Andrade scored 18 and Chase Silvia added 12 more for M.V.
