On Sunday, the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School girls and boys swim teams traveled to UMass Dartmouth for the Bay Colony Conference Championships.

Out of nine conference members, the boys placed seventh and the girls placed eighth. Nantucket won both the boys and girls team championships. Bishop Stang finished second.

The swimmers that scored in the top 12 in each event scored points. In the boys competition, Harrison Dorr took sixth place in the 200 freestyle and eighth place in the 100 freestyle. Evan Sauter took seventh place in the 200 individual medley and fifth place in the 100 backstroke. Tucker Cosgrove took eighth place in the 50 freestyle and 12th place in the 100 butterfly. The 200 freestyle relay team (Tucker, Evan, Paulo Pereira, and Harrison) took fourth place, and the 400 freestyle relay (same swimmers) finished the meet with an eighth-place finish.

The girls swam in the afternoon, and had two girls place. Renee Goodale finished sixth in the 200 individual medley. Lia Potter finished eighth in the 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 butterfly. The 200 freestyle relay team (Renee, Kate Hansen, Jessica Sonia, and Lia) finished eighth, and the 400 freestyle relay (same swimmers) finished seventh, missing qualifying for the sectional championships by just 0.57 seconds.

Renee Goodale (200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke), Lia Potter (100 butterfly), and the boys 200 freestyle relay team have all qualified for the sectional championships next weekend, Feb. 13-14, at MIT in Cambridge.
