To the Editor:
Well, it's finally happened. We who used to vacation on Martha's Vineyard, some of us fortunately coming to live on the Vineyard full-time, now live, apparently, on either MV or simply the V. The stately and elegant masthead of our Times now has descended to this unfortunate age when "text" has devolved into a verb. I suppose it was inevitable.
I recall when the Martha's Vineyard motor vessel was commissioned and the venerable Gerald R. Kelly thought it should be called the MVMV, but nobody else did.
Soon, I suppose, the Other Paper will have to acquiesce and become the V Gazette.
This might be progress, but it doesn't seem like a step ahead. Perhaps a misstep.
