Susan Mercier joins Vineyard Stories

Susan Mercier, formerly of Edgartown Books, has joined Vineyard Stories as the market specialist for the Island book publishing company, according to Jan Pogue, owner of Vineyard Stories.

Ms. Mercier, chairman of the Edgartown and regional high school committees, has lived and worked on the Vineyard for 21 years.

Vineyard Stories was established in 2005 by Ms. Pogue and her late husband, John Walter. The company has published 14 books, including five new ones being placed in stores this summer. The company will publish three more in time for the holiday season, according to a press release from Ms. Pogue.

Vineyard Stories specializes in telling the history and culture of the Vineyard. Last year it published “Morning Glory Farm and the Family that Feeds an Island,” a book that met with great sales and critical acclaim, including an international award as the best local cuisine in the United States; “Schooner, Building a Wooden Boat on Martha’s Vineyard,” has already received positive reviews on- and off-Island, according to Ms. Pogue.

Ms. Mercier is married to Philip Mercier and has three daughters , Emily, Carol, and Celia.

In announcing the appointment, Ms. Pogue called Mercier “an Island book expert” with a strong buy-local philosophy. “I believe she will enhance the image and sales of our books. She’s a remarkable asset for us.”
