Close contests in track and field

There were two closely contested boys’ track and field meets at the high school last Friday. Tisbury edged Edgartown 37-30 and Oak Bluffs squeezed by West Tisbury, 34-33.

High scorer for Tisbury was Patryck Nascimento who won the shot putt and the 100m dash and placed second with the discus.

Sergey Bernier earned points in three events for Tisbury, taking third in the shot, first in the long jump, and second over the hurdles.

Edgartown’s Dorian Johnson was first with the discus, second in the shot.

Jack Yuva won both the shot putt and discus for OB. West Tisbury’s Stone won the 100m sprint and the hurdles and was second in the long jump.

Ben Poole led a West Tisbury sweep of the mile at 5:48, leading Silas Berlin (5:48.2) and Lee Faraca

The Girls’ Meets

The Edgartown girls swept the throws (shot and discus) and won the hurdles, 100m dash, and the mile, leaving Tisbury in the dust, 41-22.

Audrey Ashman was a double winner of the discus and the dash.

The WesTiz girls got by Oak Bluffs, 37-31. Lucy Hackney won the discus throw and the long jump and was second over the hurdles.

OB’s Emily DeBettencourt scored with the discus and won the mile in 6:47.8, one second ahead of WT’s Julia Neville.
