Still smarting from their 40-0 shellacking by Somerset the week before, the Vineyard varsity football team rolled into Attleboro with no illusions. They knew they were in for a rough go against Bishop Feehan despite the five losses in Feehan’s season record.
Feehan won the toss of the coin and elected to receive. Dhonathan Lemos’ kick went out of bounds on the Feehan 14. On the very first play Feehan’s McHayle ran 46 yards before Jette stopped him on the MV 40. It took the Shamrocks eight more plays to put the ball in the end zone on a pass play. Feehan had traversed 64 yards in nine plays.
The kick for the extra point made the score 7-0.
Then it was the Vineyard’s turn.
David Andrews returned the Feehan kick to the MV 30. A mixture of runs and passes moved the line of scrimmage to the Feehan 19 before the quarter ended. Brian Montambault gained two. Jette was sacked on the 24. After a failed pass, Jette connected with a leaping Andrews for an apparent touchdown. Regrettably, Andrews was ruled out of the end zone and Feehan took over, but just for two plays.
Chris Costello intercepted a pass and the Vineyard was back in business at midfield. Eight plays brought the ball to the Feehan two-yard line. A Vineyard fumble was picked up and carried to the 32. MV’s defense held and Feehan punted to the MV 20. The half ended with the Islanders in posession on their own 37 and the Shamrocks up, 7-0.
In the second half Bishop Feehan feasted on Vineyard mistakes, scoring their second TD following a Vineyard fumble.
After a short punt gave Feehan the ball on the MV 42, it took just two plays for the Shamrocks to up the ante to 13.
Feehan tried an on-side kick which was fumbled and covered by the Shamrocks on the MV 20. A touchdown and two-point conversion followed.
The final TD came at the end of a 21-yard run by McHayle,
At game’s end Bishop Feehan was poised for another score from the Vineyard’s 3-yard line but generously opted to “take a knee.”
Feehan 27, Vineyard 0.
Feehan’s record improved to 4-5. The Vineyarders are 5-2 with three games remaining, all in the friendly confines of Dan McCarthy Memorial Field, This Friday Bishop Stang is here for a 5:30 kickoff, followed by Nauset Friday, Nov, 12 at 6 PM.

But the junior Islanders did score. In the first half Kyle Stobie found the end zone and Brandon Watkins added a two-point conversion.
