In a barn-burner with Barnstable last Thursday, the Vineyard varsity soccer team managed to tie the game despite the fact that Barnstable High School led the game most of the way. Red Raider Andre Soares scored the game’s first goal 10 minutes into the contest with a penalty kick. Ten minutes into the second half the Islanders tied the count but Tyler Almonte’s goal looked like the decider. Then, with 10 seconds remaining, Sam Entner beat the Raider goalie with a penalty kick of his own.

The tie was especially appreciated by the purple-clad lads as they were decimated by injuries and significantly outnumbered by the visiting Red Raiders.

Monday, at Dan McCarthy Field, the Vineyarders closed out their regular season with a 1-1 tie against Eastern Athletic Conference foe Somerset.

Griffin Gardner scored first for M.V. Somerset equalized in the second half. Jack Wadleigh turned in a strong defensive effort.
