MV Travel Mites take the silver

The Martha’s Vineyard Travel Mites hockey team made it to the Cape & Islands playoffs at the Kennedy Rink in Hyannis last weekend.

On Saturday the Islanders overcame a 3-0 deficit to defeat Lower Cape, 5-3.

After Lower Cape took a two-goal lead in the first period, Logan Araujo scored for the Vineyard with four minutes remaining. LC got that one back in the final minute of the period.

Jackson Pachico’s second period score tightened the game to 3-2. The final period belonged to the Vineyard with goals scored by Peter Gillis and Hoffie Hearn assisted by Will Bruguiere. MV won, 5-3.

On Sunday the MV Mites took on Hetland. The game was reminiscent of the previous day’s contest when Hetland took a three-goal lead before Aiden Araujo put the Vineyard on the scoreboard.

The Islanders never quit and gave a good accounting of themselves, especially goal tender Aiden Marek.
