MV Florist and Gifts celebrated the grand opening of its new retail space at 12 Mariner’s Way, adjacent to the Edgartown Post Office and shopping center, on Saturday, March 31.
Shoppers enjoyed some giveaway items and treats such as edible hibiscus flowers in champagne. Susan Fletcher of Oak Bluffs won a $50 gift card in a raffle.
Owner Ellen O’Brien said in an email to The Times that she plans to stock ready-to-go fresh flower arrangements, bouquets, loose cut flowers, and orchid plants. Silk flowers and supplies for do-it-yourself flower arrangers will also be available.
The store carries local products such as Anne Bennett’s Vineyard Sweets chocolates, Linda Alley’s jellies, Barbara Reynolds’s photo cards, Debbie Hale’s pottery, and MV Candles, as well as Fair Trade gifts from around the world.
A meeting room is available for planning events. The store is decorated with a hand-painted mural of the Emily Post House and Dahlia Gardens by artist Hallie Colletta.
MV Florist and Gifts blossomed from an online floral business Ms. O’Brien launched in her Vineyard Haven home in May 2009.
“I have worked from home doing flowers for weddings and parties and taking FTD and Teleflora and direct flower orders over the computer and phone,” Ms. O’Brien said. “I now have a staff of designers and it is time for a small retail store.”
