Joyce May Hobby, 72, of Oak Bluffs died at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on Friday, May 10, 2013.
She was born on April 20, 1941, to Herman Alwardt and Barbara (Peters) Roderick, both of whom predeceased her. She grew up in Oak Bluffs and was a graduate of Martha’s Vineyard High School. Joyce lived for 15 years in Pearland, Texas. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and spent many enjoyable hours horseback riding.
Joyce is survived by her son, Troy Hobby of Big Sky, Montana, two daughters, Stacy Spooner of Dudley and Jill Jackson of Vineyard Haven, a step-brother, Herman Alwardt Jr., two step-sisters, Stella Little and Cheryl West, and five grandchildren, Emily and Matthew Spooner, Callie Jackson, and Brady and Sydney Hobby. She is also survived by her former husband, Barry Hobby.
A visitation was held on Monday, May 13, at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Edgartown Rd, Oak Bluffs. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, May 14, in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Pacific Ave., Oak Bluffs.
