The annual sand sculpture contest on South Beach in Edgartown always produces more than its share of “oohs” and “ahs” as the elaborate creations fill the beach.
The seventh annual contest is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, at the right fork.
Weather forecasters predict prime sand sculpting conditions, mostly sunny with temperatures in the upper 70s.
The event has grown since the Edgartown Board of Trade launched contest. Last year there were more than 60 entries.
The fun begins at 9:30 am with registration. Contestants begin creating their sand masterpieces at 10 am, and must be finished by 2 pm, when judges will make their decisions.
There are categories for adults and kids and a popular “people’s choice” award where the beach crowd picks their favorite.
